Interview // Swoosh God Talks Sneaker Rotation and “Paying It Forward” For Fans
Swoosh God is for the people.
Pacing the grounds of Rolling Loud NYC with the 21-year-old MC, we couldn’t help but notice the attention he demands. Artists and security alike are eager to greet the “Swoosh Me Up” rapper as we’d walk by them, all shouting from the peripherals of our path. Impressively enough, Swoosh handles the attention with grace and humility. Even in having to pause our interview as he took a FaceTime call from Brooklyn Nets star forward Kevin Durant, who simply called to ask, “What’s good, where you at?”
As it would seem, all eyes are on Swoosh in NYC. And for good reason. His eclectic sound and unique sense of fashion have already earned him praise from the pivotal creatives of our generation. From rocking sold-out shows in London with AJ Tracey to catching Virgil Abloh’s stamp of approval on IG, the young MC is flourishing with direct endorsements from Harlem’s A$AP Mob. Yup, Swoosh God is clearly on the Come Up.
However, the most impressive part of our conversation with Swoosh was seeing how true he is to the sneaker community. In speaking about his childhood and the sneakers he would receive for Christmas, he mentions how he wants to replicate that experience for his fans, making note of “how important it is to pay it all forward.” Just a few weeks later and Swoosh took to Instagram to announce his “7 Days of Swoosh God” Christmas giveaway in partnership with StockX, where seven lucky winners will have the chance to win some of hottest sneaker drops of 2019.

Swoosh God’s Sneaker Rotation
VLONE x Nike Air Force 1 High Black/White

Swoosh God: I’ve been giving them a break, but I used to wear them a lot ‘cause I got them when I first went on one of my biggest tours. I did so many good performances in ‘em and I still keep them around even though they’re beaten up like crazy.
They’re at my LA house so I had to put ‘em on ice ‘cause Biggs hates when I wear them. I wear them a lot. That’s, like, number one for me.
Nike Air Yeezy 1 Black/Pink

Swoosh God: I wear these and the tan ones in about equal amounts. I perform in those too — I did my Lil Air Max tour in those. I’m trying to get the grey ones to complete my collection, and then I’m gonna move onto the Yeezy Nike 2 collection and conquer that.
Surprisingly I got this for free from Sean Wotherspoon. It was back when I was coming up in LA, like, I was coming up in my music. Sean’s always supported me and I honestly didn’t have the money to afford it back then. But I just wanted to talk to Sean about it just to keep it in his mind that I wanted them. He wouldn’t sell them and eventually, he was just, like, “You know what, bro, nobody’s gonna buy ‘em. Take ‘em. They’re going in good hands.” I couldn’t believe it, bro! I walked outta that store like I thought I was getting tricked. [Laughs] I don’t know. He gave them to me.
Shoutout to Sean Wotherspoon, shoutout to the whole Round Two family. LA, New York, they doing Chicago, Miami, they all over the place. Shoutout to Round Two.
Union x Air Jordan 1 “Blue Toe”

Swoosh God: See, I have the Blue toes right now. But I need to get my hands on the Black toes. Obviously I’m a fan of the 1s in general but I wouldn’t say these are my favorite 1s though.
Let me see… my favorite Jordan 1? That’s a real tough one, it’s gotta be some OG stuff. You know what I’m saying? Like, Banned 1 OGs. The original all-leather — good leather — hightop. That or, you know what? I feel like Shadows are sleepers. I feel like people don’t pull ‘em off enough. Banned 1s and Shadow 1s gotta be my top Jordan 1s.
Air Jordan 6 “DMP”

Swoosh God: I actually want to go with some shoes I don’t have yet. So, you know what, I’m gonna go with the DMP 6s. Man, I need those in my life. And, not to sound crazy or anything, but man, I don’t really like paying for shoes like that no more. Because I feel, like, I’m the Swoosh God, so I should have ‘em.
So PSA: if you have a size 8.5 or 9 pair of DMP 6s that you don’t wear, send ‘em to my crib, I’ll make good use of ‘em. [Laughs]
Undercover x Nike Daybreak

Swoosh God: These are actually the newest thing that I just added to my collection. Undercover Daybreaks.
Yeah man, those are comfortable. And, you know what, they’re a good performing shoe. They’re great to perform in. I think I’m gonna finish out the tour in those, just ‘cause they’ve also got a pair in black and white. They’re comfortable, they’re a running shoe. I feel like I’ll be getting more pairs of these soon.
Special thanks to Swoosh God and Rolling Loud.
