Los Angeles rapper Filho recently linked up with the rapidly rising Little Rock rapper Goon Des Garcons for a distorted punky new track “Oh My God.” The instrumental is thumping and lends itself perfectly for the warped vocals and aggressive flows from this duo. Atlanta based creative Jelani recently unveiled an incredible new visual for his track “a gram!” and seemingly has all of his city already behind this project as so much of my Twitter timeline today has been focused on him and his new exploits. “A gram!” comes before his upcoming project, releasing September 4th, and this is certainly something I will be tuning in to. Donte Thomas recently arrived on the radar and the Portland rapper has quickly asserted himself as one of my favorite up-and-comers because of his innate ability to paint pictures through his words, which is evident as one of his main objectives with the title of his new album COLORS. On the album, Thomas attacks a variety of instrumental styles, showing his versatility and overall rapping skill that is undeniable. SRNDR is a duo that recently just hit my radar and the Los Angeles based duo has already made quite the impression on my ear, with their distinct stylistic blends to make a song that taps into a variety of sonic influences. Texas rapper LilCj Kasino is back with more heat, this time with his thumping track “Swerve” accompanied by an energy-packed visual. The track was produced by SIX7, and his instrumental was incredibly simple yet infectious, centered around knocking percussion with no melody to make the song even more simple for Kasino to spit on. Emerging NYC talents Austin Sour and Frosty Premerecently linked for a collaborative effort titled “Teriyaki,” and this track is jam packed with bars and oozes lyrical ability. Each not only exhibits their dense lyrical gifts, but also show a variety of flows and deliveries that are equally impressive. The charisma filled video was directed by Cole Eckerle who has consistently proven himself to be one of the best young videographers around. I am very glad these two are collaborating and they are both artists to watch from the Big Apple.
