Aaron Rose recently reunited with his frequent collaborators Joey Bada$$ and Chuck Strangers for a menacing new track titled “FTW.” Given the personnel on this track, it is to be expected that it is laced with heavy bars, but instrumentally this is not at all what I was expecting, as it is a highly atmospheric trap beat with punchy electric guitar accents. Bosslife Big Spence’s long awaited debut project BOSSLIFE SUMMER: The Life Chose Me has finally arrived and shows exactly why Spence’s come up is imminent. His charisma is undeniable and his confidence has endeared him to the entire Bay Area. Oakland rapper Wade08 is back with a new visual, directed by the surging visual creative @shotbysig who is proving to be an indispensable cog to the Bay Area machine that is getting closer to being nationally relevant almost monthly. Wade’s track “Spazz Out” was produced by Drew Banga and fits Wade’s “futuristic hyphy” sound well, adding some soul to the traditional Oakland sound. The LOWFi collective is back with a new three track EP offering titled The Difference, that showed some new sonic conventions, as well as a healthy amount of bars that have endeared the group to so many hip-hop purists. KII pronounced (K two) makes his Elevator debut with an organic video, “Cookies“. The video is trippy and gives off a heavy feeling of nostalgia. Derby, England singer-songwriter Emzae sifts through “the song with the synth that sounds like an inkjet printer” with a bit more tempo than her fans are used to. The good news is that it works: Emzae sounds just as good when the pace is a little faster. The hook on the new release is sure to have your head nodding in rhythm.
